My dad, oh, how I love him. He puts up with so much sometimes. Happily married for almost 43 years, father of 2 (my little brother and me), grandpa to 6. Those 6 bring him joy during this season of his life. Two boys and 4 girls.
(The eldest is 16, the youngest is 1. Both boys. He calls them his ‘bookends’. )
And, man, do all 6 of them love their Papa! Both boys’ first words…yep, you guessed it: PAPA!
And, man, does he love them! Enough to go to Disneyland and just hold them.
Let me explain… My dad is an avid outdoors man. He loves to work outside, play outside, sit outside, visit outside, anything outside. He is a responsible hunter and fisher. He is a hard worker that loves being at his cabin in the mountains. For him to go to Disneyland is pretty close to a miracle.
When my twin girls were 3 months old, my husband and I decided to take all 4 of our kids to Disneyland. We were down there on business anyway and, you know, wouldn’t the other 2, ages 4 and 2, just LOVE it!? Princesses, Buzz, Woody, Mickey Mouse! Come on!!
And my dad came with. He packed up Nana and decided we were all going to Disneyland. For a man who gets a little woozy on rides, he was happy as a canary to travel with us just to sit with the twins while my husband and I played with the older two. We live in Southern Idaho, only 760 miles from Disneyland. That was June of 2003. My kids are now 16, 15, 13 and 13.
And he did is again just this past November with my brother’s family. My niece and nephew are 3 and 1, respectively. He made that 760 mile jaunt to amazing Anaheim, CA just to be with his two youngest grand kids.
Being the Disney addict that I am, I am always looking to make everyone’s Disney experiences as magical and amazing as possible. So, I asked him his favorite places to sit and hold a grandchild, or just to sit and relax for a moment. Where did he go to decompress from the crowds, and possibly find some quiet in the ‘Happiest Place on Earth?”
Here are his 3 favorite places to chill:
- Tomorrow Land. Between the Finding Nemo Submarine Voyage and Autopia. The further back against the wall of the park, the better.
- Fantasy Land. Between the Matterhorn Bobsleds and the Alice in Wonderland bathrooms. Near the Mad Tea Party Cups ride.
The bathrooms here are neatly decorated also. A fun little pit stop….
- Anywhere between Grizzly Peak and Soarin’ Over California (36). There are uncrowded areas to get a drink or a snack. There are trees that provide shade. And it is sort of quiet and calming, like in the mountains. Kind of off the beaten path, most visitors go the other way once through the gates. A perfect place to hold a sleeping baby and rest your feet.
Just so you know, he is constantly having me keep my eyes open for amazing deals for Disney World.
Well, he came to right woman for that. Plane rides, hotels, and 6 grand kids…I think he may have just become a FELLOW DISNEY ADDICT!
