I get asked this question a LOT! And I don’t mind it. When someone finds out that I have a passion for Disneyland and blog about it they always ask, “When is the best time to go? When are the crowds the lightest?” Those questions are often followed by, “Where is the best deal for Disneyland tickets?” And these questions are where I come to life.
Let me share with you what I know.
“What is the best time to go? When are the crowds the lightest?”
Let me break it down month by month. When you ask that question, you have to take into account the season and any holidays that may be looming. Let’s get started…
January: The 1st through the 8th…don’t even think about it. It is the end of the Christmas decoration season and school breaks. However after the 8th, it really thins out. Especially during the weekdays. Want to go when the lines are practically non-existent? Hit the parks mid-week in January.
February: Mid-week is best. Weekends are busier that’s for sure. Especially due to Valentine’s Day.
March: This is a dangerous month. Spring break strikes the country and the park fills up to the max. The first 10 days are your safest bet. Please be aware that the Easter holiday is in there somewhere and that will effect the crowds. However there are some amazing things to do and shows to see during the Easter time.
April: Seriously, stick to Monday through Fridays and you are safe. Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays are often ghost towns. This month offers GREAT photo ops and Easter Egg hunts. The weather is getting warmer and the hotels are still at off-season prices.
May: First 2 weeks are your best best. Again, especially during the week. Weekends are filling up…the weather is GREAT! Families are getting ready for vacations and school is about to be out. Disneyland GRAD nights are gearing up and that means LARGE crowds. Be warned!
June: Crowds are there but bearable is you don’t go on the weekends. June is when the weather is warm but NOT sweltering and school is OUT! Later in the month is better than earlier. Early month is full of gradates and the crowds are horrible.
July: The first half of the month is hot; but the crowds are bearable. The end of the month is much busier. May I recommend the 5th of July. Pretty good day.
August: The first few weeks are packed! And hot! However, by the end of the month crowds thin out. School is starting around the country and people are getting their ‘responsible’ schedules back on track.
September: This is an all around GREAT month to go to Disneyland Resort. The weather is cooler, school is back in, and the crowds are less! The weekends are busier; but the weekdays are delightful.
October: Halloween is on its way and Disney knows how to spook it out. Weekends are crazy…but SUPER AMAZING! Weekdays are busy too….but Disney makes it worth it. They always do. Seriously though, I do not recommend October with little ones or for a quick trip.
November: Before Thanksgiving break is the time to go. After Thanksgiving break is the time to go. during Thanksgiving Break…run away. Christmas decor is usually up by the 2nd weekend and it is beautiful! And so dang fun!
December: Go! regardless of crowds and weather, GO! Disney + Christmas should be on the bucket list of everyone! The last 2 weeks are packed…but they are so jolly and wonderful. If you can handle the people, just go.
Seriously, crowds at Disneyland are always jolly and fun. But if you don’t like crowds go mid-week in almost every month.
Here are my quick recommendations. January and the first half of February, the last week in February till Mid-March, end of April to Mid-May, September to the first bit of October, and mid-November. And I HIGHLY recommend weekdays. Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays are the best.
