Walt Disney’s Palm Springs, CA home is for sale right now. This is the home Walt and Lillian retreated to in Walt’s final four years before his death in 1966. It was their “desert retreat.”
This home was built with the modern features of the 1960’s and created with inspiration from Walt ‘s popular television show transitioning from Walt Disney Presents, which was in black-and-white, to color and thus changing the name to Walt Disney’s Wonderful World of Color. This home shows this iconic era and change to the Walt Disney’s Wonderful World of Color with pops of bold and bright primary colors throughout the home, many of the classic Disney color schemes we know and love today! This home is nicknamed the “technicolor dream home.”
This home was owned by the last Disney family member in 2015, when it was sold to a private owner and now being resold just over a year later.
Interestingly enough, the listing shows that the private owners of the home kept Walt’s vision for the home in the color schemes presented, and many of those pictures can be shown on the vacation rentals site (53 of them), but something must have changed on the outside in the past few years as the google street view shows the classic 60’s look – bland.
But sometime in the past few years, someone added those “pops of color” to the outside too. It makes you wonder how much of the inside looks like the original.
So now the next question is….how much is this home selling for?
Yes, $899,000. Is it worth this much? At the time of this post, according to Zillow, it is worth $832,000. Zillow isn’t the definitive answer by any shot, but the home has gone down in value because the current owners bought it in 2015 for $1,075,000, which is far above the real estate value. So, with Walt’s name and former residence history attached, it would probably generate a much higher price tag, especially since most homes in the area in the $300K price range.
It looks like it has also been used as a vacation rental property. I would certainly love to have a chance to have an overnight stay in one of Walt’s former homes. That would be pretty sweet!
In the meantime, I will keep my $899,000 and invest it elsewhere. 🙂
What do you think – worth the price? Would you want to rent a night or two at this iconic home?
