Christmastime in Disneyland is one of the most magical experiences ever. It is one thing to experience the Disney magic any time of the year, but it is a whole ‘nother thing to experience the magic of both Christmas and Disney together. It’s a magical explosion!
I have been to Disneyland multiple times during the Christmas season. I have been been on the first day of the Christmas season to the last day of the Christmas season.
I have been during the “ghost town” times of the season and the “it’s so busy you can barely walk and the gates are closed at 10 am for meeting capacity” days.
Honestly, I have no desire, even during Christmastime to visit Disneyland again during those peak days, but the rest of the season lends itself to some pretty sweet Disney vacation days.
The next obstacle is the cost! But I want to show you how a family of 5 can go to Disneyland at the most basic level for about $259 per person, and then how adding another $100 per person makes for a bit more magic for a premium experience!
How does that sound? Many people spend about this per person for Christmas, so why not make a Christmas of memories that last a lifetime.
So how can you go to Disneyland CHEAP during Christmas season?
Here’s how to go to Disneyland cheap during the Christmas season:
Step #1 – Head to the GetAwayToday site HERE and search of hotels for at least 3 nights (so you can get the free night deals). Your best prices will be for nights in the middle of the week, this also means less foot traffic in the parks too, so you will get to do a little more.
Step #2 – The package automatically searches for deals with 3-day Park Hopper tickets. This would be part of the premium experience, so instead, remove those tickets and add two-day one park per day tickets. This is going to be the best way to go on a small budget. There are two parks, so you will spend day #1 in one park and day #2 in the second park.
That’s it! By taking these two steps, you can get the best hotel deals with free parking, free nights and free breakfast. Plus, you get to visit each park for a whole day.
The total cost starts at $1295 for a family of 5, or $259 per person!! The hotels will sell out soon for Christmas season, so you will want to book soon for the best prices. The lower priced good neighbor hotels sell out first.
Now if you want to increase the experience to a “premium experience” you can upgrade your tickets to park hopper tickets for about $45 more per ticket. This allows you to “hop” between parks. Honestly, we RARELY do this. For us it is generally not worth it. It is such a long walk between the two that you waste time, but it is a popular ticket, so many must find the value.
However, if you did a 3 day ticket, that would only cost you $65 more. So I always say to add an extra day rather than hop!
But I don’t necessarily think you should put your budget into more days or ability to hop between parks, if you are going to use any of your budget, it should be in any or all of these upgraded experiences.
#1 – Max Pass – $10 per person, per day. We have written about this in a previous post. This is a good value if you are going for two-days especially. This allows you to schedule your fast pass times from your phone, which generally means you can squeeze in an extra ride or two and relax a bit. It also gets you the photos for the day from the onsite photographers. At only $10 a day per person, this is a better place to put a little extra budget.
#2 – A character dining experience. This is worth the money! In fact, it is not only an upgrade, but an upgrade that would only cost $29 – $47 if you buy the Character Dining through a discount Disney travel agent like GetAwayToday. Through Disney directly, these experiences are $35 – $60. So you can save money on a premium experience too!
We have written about this in this article HERE. In addition, if you check online and Character Dining seems to be sold out online for the date of your visit, don’t fret! There may be a solution and that solution is found in this article HERE.
So, whether you decide to “hop” for the two days, upgrade to three days, add Character Dining and use the Max Pass, you can add some of all of this for about $100 more per person! At the very least, the $10 per day, per person for the MaxPass at $2o total upgrade, this alone will make your experience super special!
Here’s where it gets even more awesome!
