Let’s jump right in. No need for an intro, let’s just get to the heart of the matter. There is TONS going on this summer, actually this WHOLE year, at Disneyland! Updates galore, new attractions, entire NEW lands! Plus, there are some amazing RunDisney opportunities that you should check out!
GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY
We all know, and some of us are saddened, that as of January 2, 2017 The Hollywood Tower of Terror came to a permanent close. It was Mouseke~Cassie’s and my favorite ride. One trip, we rode it 6 times in a row! The pictures were priceless. However, the ride will re-open this summer with a MARVEL-ous change to it!
Yep, our beloved Tower of Terror is becoming Guardians of the Galaxy: Mission~ BREAKOUT! It promises to have the same stomach dropping ride but with a more MARVEL-ous theme. This change is more about contracts, or the loss of them, than the loss of a Hollywood era. Disney really had no control; but like the rest of us, has to follow the rules. We have no definite opening day YET…but it is promised SUMMER 2017. Actually rumored to open in April or May.
Let’s talk about the OTHER HUGE GINOR’MOUSE’ THINGS on the horizon. The Land of Star Wars. Or Star Wars Land. I don’t know what it will be called at the time of this writing. Star Wars Land seems an odd name to me, but it definitely gets your attention. This attraction promises to be HUGE! BIG! And I for one, am incredibly excited for it. I simply cannot wait. Cassie and I have been paying VERY close attention to any news that comes out so we can share it with you. Infact, that last time we were in Disneyland, we had Alex climb the fence to snag us some pics…check it out.
Here is the down low…. It doesn’t have an official opening date. This 14 acre expansion promises to be amazing. Concept designers want you to feel like you are changing planets…just like in the movies.
This construction has halted many rides that will be opening back up Summer 2017. Rides like Mark Twain’s River boat will be re-opening along with Davy Crockett’s Explorer Canoes. There is no official date, but it will be this summer! Like I stated above, 2017 is THE year to go to Disneyland Resort. Along with these two iconic attractions, The Pirate’s Lair on Tom Sawyer Island will be opening again and the Sailing Ship Columbia. The two that I am most excited for are 1) The New Fantasmic show will open AND 2) the Disneyland Railroad will start chugging along again. I am interested in seeing the changes in the rail line brought on by the construction. They both were put on hold due to construction activities for Star Wars.
Star Wars junkies that are eagerly awaiting the opening of Star Wars Land can still get a good fix in Tomorrow Land. Space Mountain is now Hyper Space Mounting and there is an amazing Star Wars Launch Bay that has props and replicas from ALL the movies! It is an amazing collections of Star Wars Memorabilia and you should NOT miss it. You can also meet Chewbacca and/or Darth Vader if you time it right. (I may or may not have joined the Dark Side.)
The Electric Parade is BACK!
Hold on to your hats! This is super cool! I remember this from when I was a kids. From 1972 to 1996, The Electric Parade was an iconic staples of Disneyland. It moved over to California Adventure, then was whisked away to Disney World. But not is it back! Here is the update: It is only in Disneyland until Jun 18, 2017. So, don’t miss it. This is the 45th Anniversary of the parade and will only be here for a limited time. It is undisclosed as to what happens to it after June 18. It ran in California Adventure from June 2001 to April 2010. Last I saw it was June 2003, my kids were 4, 2, and the twins were 3 months. I would love to share this with them now that they are teens.
Remember. . .Dreams Come True! is coming back!
Yes, this amazing firework show is coming back. Disneyland Forever is going away now that the 60th Anniversary has come to a close. There is no word for how long; but an educated guess is that it will be around till the next Holiday Season.
And rumor has it… California Adventure Food and Wine Festival
The last one was so successful, Disney is throwing around the possibility of another. This one should be bigger and better than the last. More on that when it comes out. We promise!
This is a new thing for me. Races through Disneyland and California Adventure. However, I HIGHLY recommend it! They are outstandingly fun! Cassie and I ran our first Disneyland 5K Novemenber of 2016. The Captain America 5K…complete with fancy medal!
There are 3 Disneyland RunDisney events in 2017.
- Tinker Bell Half Marathon at Disneyland (May 11-14)
- Disneyland Half Marathon (August 31-September 3)
- Super Heroes Half Marathon at Disneyland (November 9-12)
The RunDisney site offers training tips and special events just for runners. I am NOT a runner…but I did it. And if I can do it, YOU can too! They are super fun and energetic. I hope to do another…this time with my 4 teenage kids.
Get Away Today
This is the other big news I wanted share with you. Right now, Disneyland tickets through Get Away Today are offering FREE days when you purchase a 4-Day Park Hopper ticket. And when you combine that with the good neighbor hotels that offer the 3rd, 4th, or 5th night free, you get amazing savings!
They also offer a lay away plan that is amazingly easy to use. $125 down hold your hotels and tickets.
AND!!!!! Adults get in for Kids prices. That is such a great thing to take advantage of. Now that my family is all Adult prices, this saves me and my family of 6 $90 alone in tickets! Not to mention the free day which saves me over $400, and then if I combine that with a FREE night at the hotel that is approximately $600. Holy smokes! And if I combine ALL of this with the COUPON CODE: MMOM10 I get another $10 off!
This is one STELLAR way to celebrate 2017! TONS to look forward to!
What are you looking forward to in Disneyland?
